Digital Nomad Visa

On the 15th of October 2021, the Council of Ministers approved the issuance of the Digital Nomad Visa. The programme allows third-country nationals working for employers/clients abroad to reside temporarily in the Republic of Cyprus (Cyprus) if they can perform their work remotely using telecommunications technology.

On the 3rd of March the ceiling of beneficiaries was increased to 500.

Persons that are eligible to be file an application are:

  • Non-EU or non-EEA nationals who can perform work remotely through telecommunications technology;
  • Non-EU or non-EEA nationals who are employed in a company registered abroad, for which they can work location-independently, or are self-employed offering services remotely for clients located abroad;
  • Non-EU or non-EEA nationals who can prove that they have stable and sufficient monthly net income of at least EUR 3,500 (after the deduction of contributions and taxes). This amount is increased by 20% for the spouse/partner and by 15% for each child.

The applicant and their family members should provide a number of personal documents and also undergo medical tests.

Moreover, it should be noted that family members of the above mentioned nationals may also receive a temporary residence permit.

Government fees for this procedure will vary between EUR 70 and EUR 140 and the entire procedure from filling the documents until receipt of the residence permit will take approximately 5-7 weeks.

Lastly, it is important to note that:

  • The residence permit is issued for 1 year with a renewal option of another 2 years;
  • Family members may not be employed or perform economic activity in Cyprus;
  • Applicants residing one or more periods in Cyprus that in total exceed 183 days within the same tax year, will constitute tax residents, provided they are not a tax resident of any other country.
